Geology of Shoes

Project is taking inspiration from sediment layers and from effects of erosive processes in nature as well as from traditional shoe making techniques. Special construction method has been developed and used across the collection. Multiple layers of leather scrap pieces are added on the last and subsequently sanded down to achieve the final shape and unique colour pattern of the shoe. Colour scheme is influenced by old geological maps.

Making of a Blueware Vase

Blueware Vases are the result of a process that captures direct impressions of botanical specimens on ceramics using light and photo sensitive chemicals. Using age-old preserving techniques, humble weeds of inner London borough pavements are pressed, dried and then composed between plates of glass that function like photographic negatives.
Working with light sensitive chemicals, the plates and tiles are then exposed under ultra violet light, which develops a photogram of the specimens in intense Prussian blue. What remains is a crisp white silhouette of the specimens, creating intricate floral designs of the subjects from root to tip. This film shows the pressed designs incorporated into a vase.

Paper Planes

As part of the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition in Milan, Glithero present the fruits of an original collaboration with Baddeley Brothers; five expertly crafted paper airplanes. Using traditional print press techniques and an unorthodox appropriation of an envelope-folding machine, the project is presented alongside this 'making-of' film that pays homage to the faithful relationship between the printers and their machines.

Poured Bar

A bar top made by pouring. Layers of fast-hardening fluid are poured in 6 metre long runs across an immaculate surface. As the viscous material hardens, enforcements are added to brace the giant slab, the first pours becoming buried under its foundations. At last, when it is made sturdy and rigid, the slab is flipped in one choreographed motion, revealing the smooth plane of the first poured layers, blobs, runs, drips and puddles, tracing the path of the gesture with which it was made.
The bar top, made in situ, is mounted onto a wooden structure, a temporary pop-up bar with an expressive and accidental top. Commissioned by the Corinthia Hotel, London, the temporary bar hosted several parties including the Bafta Awards and London Fashion Week events.
